FABRIZIO MUSA "THE NEW POP"

DI SERGIO GADDI

Fabrizio Musa's pop work is new because in the immediacy of the sign it compels thinking.
The recognizability of myths feeds on emotion, and when painting strikes emotionality it achieves its purpose.
Each work in this significant selection presented at AA Spazio Arte touches on a theme investigated over time by Musa, from the monochrome of architecture, to film characters, to the landscape of Lake Lugano revitalized by modern, allusive color. And thus everything becomes extremely pop.
The aesthetics of the consumer image, which has revolutionized the history and the art market first in London and then in New York since the late 1950s, finds in Musa a faithful but original Italian interpreter, because he succeeds in the by no means obvious feat of actualizing a constantly evolving message, while always keeping a tense and vital connection with the public. He captures, therefore, the real challenge of the great interpreters of Pop Art, of the iconic artists who managed to remain ever attuned to changes in society, taste, trends and behavior.
In a word, on the always surprising news of life.
Without drying up, without taking dead-end streets, without mannerist repetitions or self-quotations.
For the revolutionary power of Pop is all in its inherent and inexhaustible novelty. The images that fascinate us populate supermarket shelves, the urban structures of cities and monuments, the universes of social communication, networks and global relations between peoples and languages. Fabrizio Musa is perfectly at home in this accelerated whirlwind, maintaining the detached calm that allows him to create works that convey his constant reflection in the apparent simplicity of gesture.
For this, his pop is real and can only be the new pop. Like the title of this exhibition.
